Milford Church – Some discoveries during the alterations in the Sanctuary in the years 1947-1949 by Rev. S. G. Hooper. The consequences of alterations to the chancel floor in 1892 came to light in 1947 when the flagstones previously laid were removed. Brick-lined vaults for five graves were revealed and some of the coffins had been opened and the bones scattered. The author places on record exactly what was discovered and the subsequent reverent treatment of the remains. Other vaults under the choir stalls and outside the choir arch were left uninvestigated in 1947. The article considers who, from the 1600s and 1700s, might have been buried in the chancel (choir or sanctuary). Remnants of 18th century painted texts were found in 1949 when various memorials were removed from the chancel walls to other parts of the Church.
