Occasional Magazine Vol.5 No.4 (January 1948)
Reminiscences of Milford by A.Cole. The author sets down what it was like to be a schoolboy in Milford about 1870.Such memories as the Church services, Sunday School, the National School, workers’ wages, transport, elections, the decline of agriculture, the autumn and spring fairs, the beach and many other things are recalled with kindly humour. He contrasts the life of the present generation (he was writing in 1939) with his own youth and its “quiet, neighbourly, peaceful days”.
