The exhibition Command the Seas: the Navy and the New Forest against Napoleon runs from 8th June until 1st September.
Napoleon’s army is poised to invade England, only the Channel Fleet commanded by Admiral William Cornwallis opposes them.
Discover how Cornwallis, Milford’s most distinguished resident, thwarted Napoleon and was instrumental in assembling the fleet which was victorious at Trafalgar. This unique exhibition shows the role played by the Navy and the New Forest during the French Wars from 1793-1815.
Featuring JMW Turner’s second sketch for ‘The Battle of Trafalgar’ (on loan from the Tate)
