Cobblestones, Sea Road

Cobblestones was demolished in 2001and two properties were built on the site.

Our correspondent lived in Cobblestones from 1949-1959. There has been some further interest in the house as a later resident was a friend of J R R Tolkien and there has been some speculation that Tolkien may have visited at some time; as yet unconfirmed. Tolkien regularly holidayed in Bournemouth and from 1968-1971 lived in Poole.

“I remember the bungalows opposite being built. I also remember Roberts Brothers Circus being on the field opposite (cannot remember the date) but there was much excitement me and my brother were up early watching the lorries arrive with the animals.”
