The Ancient Parish of Milford

The Parish Registers of Milford that have survived to the present day start in 1594. At that time, the parish of Milford would have been much larger including Wootton and Arnewood in the North, Chewton in the West and Pennington in the East. The southern boundary was the sea. In 1626, King Charles presented the advowson of the Parish of Milford with Hordle and Milton to Queen’s College Oxford. In 1654 the chapel of Milton started its own register and in 1754 Hordle began its own register. The map shows the conjectural boundaries of the Ancient Parish.
