Here are some shortcuts to websites which are useful for the researcher.

An excellent starting point for the researcher is https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk It tells you which Archive is holding the record if it is not in the National Archive.

A good site run by the Institute of Historical Research – (you may have to pay for premium content).  http://www.british-history.ac.uk/

If you researching London people and events this is a useful website although much of their data has yet to be digitised. https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/london-metropolitan-archives/Pages/search.aspx

The Society of Genealogists has a reasonable catalogue which you can search here. Full access is reserved for members. http://www.sog.org.uk/search-records

The Online Historical Population Reports (OHPR) collection provides online access to the complete Population Census reports for Britain and Ireland from 1801 to 1937. http://www.histpop.org/ohpr/servlet/Show?page=Home

The Hampshire Record Office is always worth a visit but search their catalogue before you travel. https://calm.hants.gov.uk/advanced.aspx?src=CalmView.Catalog

The British Newspaper Archive is a subscription site https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/

The Clergy of the Church of England database is very useful. https://theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/search/index.jsp
