A Brief Account of Lymore (PDF)
Description of Lymore houses, past and present. Thatched cottages: adjacent orchards, bread ovens Cob walls of loam, clay and gravel from local pit. Important underground stream beneath gravel pit; notable springs below Lymore Lane. Gravel pit and underlying clay has yielded prehistoric flints and fossil shells. Wild life. Kitch’s Bridge.

A Dispute between Mr Benjamin Pepper of Milford Mill and Mrs Whitby in 1833-35 (PDF)
Dispute: Mrs Whitby, of Newlands (1819-50), and Benjamin Pepper, of Milford mill (1833) relating to alleged trespass on Westover Common. Winchester Assizes jury (March 1835) confirmed lands in Pepper’s possession, but “had no right to … Westover Common”. Dispute (April 1834): watercourses on Mrs Whitby’s property damaging workings of Mill.

Arnewood Tower (PDF)
Arnewood Tower, Hordle built (1879-85) to design of Andrew Thomas Turton Peterson (1813-1906). Qualified barrister, Peterson spent much his career in India, retiring wealthy, settling in Hordle (1868). Tower built of concrete, 13 storey campanile, internal spiral staircase, smaller two-storeyed observatory, 218 feet. 1870s Peterson convinced Spiritualist. Three photographs.
