Occasional Magazine Vol.1 No.5 (November 1912)
The Milford Secession from the Church of England, A.D. 1815-16 by W. Ravenscroft. During 1808-23 the non-resident Vicar of Milford was Dr. George Thompson. He appointed a very young man, the Rev. Harrington Evans, as Curate in Charge, initially welcomed in the village but later causing irrevocable division through his energetic style of Nonconformist proselytising. Balancing the published biography of Evans with a manuscript memoir of Admiral Cornwallis by Mrs. West, the paper reconstructs how a separate Baptist community came into existence in Milford as a result of the controversy.
