How to search the archive

This short video has been prepared to show how you might use the Archive. If you prefer, the notes below set out the main elements in searching our Archive.

First, note the space for a word search alongside the search button. Just below this is a small menu to allow you to define how you want your results sorted: by Relevance, Title, Oldest, Newest.

Filters

Down the left-hand side, you will see three filters: Format; Decade; and Century.

If you are searching for a particular format of record, then you should click on the format you choose. The records which are in that format will be selected and the number of records will be shown at the top. This process can be repeated for century and decade.

Word search

If you still have many records to search then enter a word that is relevant to your search. You can keep narrowing your search with additional word searches. Your search trail is recorded above the table of remaining records.

Advanced searching

If you are unable to isolate the records you are searching for using filters and word searching, then you may wish to try advanced searching

Record request

When you have isolated the record or records that you would like to view then make a note of the Reference Number/s and complete the simple request form for the Archivist.
